Bemco Melawan Corona

An educational 2D platformer game designed to teach children about COVID-19 prevention through interactive gameplay and quizzes.

Overview

Bemco (Belajar Melawan Corona) is an interactive educational game developed during the pandemic to help children understand the importance of health protocols in a fun and engaging way. Combining 2D platforming mechanics with educational quizzes, the game challenges players to collect essential health items while avoiding the virus.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game features standard platformer controls where the player navigates through levels, collects items, and defeats viruses. Uniquely, it integrates learning modules:

  1. Item Collection: Players must gather masks (N53), hand sanitizers, and coins to progress.
  2. Quiz Checkpoints: To unlock new areas or complete levels, players must answer questions related to Math, Science (IPA), and Indonesian Language, all themed around health awareness.
  3. Virus Combat: Players can “defeat” viruses using disinfectant sprays found in the level.

The game is structured into different “Subjects” acting as difficulty levels or themes:

  • Matematika: Logic and calculation puzzles.
  • IPA (Science): Biology and virus prevention knowledge.
  • B. Indonesia: Reading comprehension and vocabulary.

Players tackle increasingly difficult stages (Level 1-3). Each mission starts with a clear briefing on what needs to be collected to help the “Covid-19 Heroes” (medical staff).

Impact

This project served as a creative medium to spread awareness among elementary school students during the lockdown, proving that learning about hygiene and health safety doesn’t have to be boring.
